Wilmington
has a population of 91,137 people and is located in New Hanover County, which
has a total population of 168,088 people according to research compiled by Places
of Value. A well-known coastal town, Wilmington is rich in history. Wilmington's
downtown is one of the largest districts on the National List of Historic Places.
The
historic downtown encompasses about 230 blocks that are filled with multi-use
buildings, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, offices and residences, all with
their own historic flair. Historic tours are offered via horse and carriage,
trolley or a guided walk by one of Wilmington's citizens.
Wilmington
sits on the banks of the Cape Fear River. East and south of the city center
are several beautiful, white sand beaches; Kure Beach, Carolina Beach and Wrightsville
Beach to name a few. Known as, "The Port of Pleasure and Progress,"
Wilmington once made its living through shipping, and now prospers off of a
thriving film industry and tourism. Located in the southeastern corner of the
state, Wilmington provides access to many great beaches, and other southern
cities Raleigh and Fayetteville are two hours north, Myrtle Beach, SC is about
an hour and a half south, and Charleston, SC is about three and a half hours
south.

closest airport is Wilmington International Airport, four miles outside of town.
Wilmington International Airport has connections to New York, Philadelphia,
Atlanta and Charlotte. Airlines serving Wilmington International Airport include
Delta and US Airways.
